Converting weights

To work out how much it will cost to send an item you will first need to know its weight in kilograms (kgs). There are 1,000 grams (g) in a kilogram (kg).

If you need to covert from Imperial measurements: 1 ounce = 28.35g; 1 pound = 0.4536kg; 1 stone = 6.3504kgs.

How do I go about Converting Currencies?

If you are not used to working in South African Rands and would like to convert a quote to your currency, click on the Currency Converter link in the Business Tools section or the footer links.  Select the starting currency, or currency you wish to convert from, from the top drop down menu. Then select the end currency, or currency you wish to convert the amount into, from the drop down underneath. Then click on the “Perform Currency Conversion” button at the bottom.

What are Major City Centres?

The Major City Centres in South Africa include: Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, East London, George, Johannesburg, Kimberly, Nelspruit, Polokwane, Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg and Port Elizabeth.

What are Surcharges?

What does Conditions of Carriage mean?

All business undertaken by Dawn Wing is subject to these conditions. The full list is available from Dawn Wing directly or can be found on the back of an item’s Waybill.

What is a Waybill?

This is the document attached to an item once collected by Dawn Wing. It contains all the information required for dispatch, the standard Conditions of Carriage and Proof of Delivery. By signing a waybill the sender is concluding a contract with Dawn Wing and warrants his authority to enter into this contract.

What is Domestic Roadfreight?

This page supplies detail on Dawn Wing’s Domestic Roadfreight service designed for non-urgent, heavier shipments.
Delivery time = between 48 and 96 hours
All tariffs exclude VAT and may be subject to additional Surcharges.

What is Next Day?

This page supplies detail on Dawn Wing’s Next Day service designed for less urgent, heavier shipments. Delivery time = between 24 and 48 hours
All tariffs exclude VAT and may be subject to additional Surcharges.

What is International Documents Express?

The Dawn Wing International Documents Express service is designed for sending important paper items which weigh less than 5 kg anywhere in the world.

What is International Parcels Express?

The Dawn Wing International Non-Documents Express service is designed for sending important parcels items anywhere in the world.

What is Overnight Express?

This service allows you to send an item anywhere in South Africa within 48 hours. There are three tiers of service available. You can send an item between any two of the Major City Centres in South Africa. The Major City Centres include: Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, East London, George, Johannesburg, Kimberly, Nelspruit, Polokwane, Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg and Port Elizabeth. Items will be delivered to any location within a 40km radius of the major city centre by 11h00 the following business day.
If you would like to send items anywhere outside of the Major City Centres in South Africa then items will be delivered within 48 hours.
If you would like to send an item between two locations within the same Major City Centre in South Africa then the items will be delivered within a 40km radius of the major city centre by 11h00 the following business day.

Zone 1 – Major Centres
Delivery time = 24 hours
There is a minimum charge for an item weighing anything up to 2kg and thereafter items are charged per additional kg.

Zone 2 – Regional Areas 

Delivery time = up to 48 hours
There is a minimum charge for an item weighing anything up to 2kg and thereafter items are charged per additional kg.

Zone 3 – In-City Centre Delivery 

Delivery time = 24 hours
There is a minimum charge for an item weighing anything up to 2kg and thereafter items are charged per additional kg.

What is Same Day Express?

Dawn Wing’s domestic Same Day Express service allows you to send an item between any major centres in South Africa on the same day as collection.
Please note the same day delivery service between major city centres is dependent upon the availability of flights on offer that day.

In order to effect a same day delivery, Dawn Wing must lodge the parcel at least 1 hour before the flights departure.
The parcel will then be delivered within 2 hours of the flight landing.
Items will be delivered on the same day as collection.

What is the Customer Zone?

This is an internet-based system which allows authorized clients access to the following facilities through the Dawn Wing website:

  • Online tracking
  • Billing & Delivery information
  • Online quotations
  • Online ordering
  • Logistics reports

Electronic documentation (SARS approved invoices & statements) To gain access to this facility either contact Dawn Wing direct or fill in the registration form on the website. Dawn Wing will then supply you with a Username and Password.
